Classic is Right! A traditional Pale Ale. No flashiness, just a clean crisp mix of malt and hops. Not as pale in color and no big fluffy head, but not bad. If you like a classic this'll do the trick. This paired exquisitely with white chili and Jim and Nicks biscuits.

It's Flying Dog. Once I finally tried this brewery's offerings, I discovered that they do not produce bad beer. So again...It's Flying Dog. Drink it.

Four Hand IPA
As I first popped the top and took a whiff I drifted back in time to a smell that reminded me of Dad's homemade white wine. No doubt the smell of the yeast coming through. This beer had a crisp, dry hop flavor with a little yeast backdrop. A refreshing IPA, which may be good for someone who isn't ready for the big hop punch in the mouth. A few years ago this would've been all the hop I would want, now, almost not enough. I would drink this with a french dip sandwich and some homemade chips.

Yuengling Porter
America's oldest brewery has been brewing beer since 1829. I think they've seen some changes in the industry since then. don't you? That was before the west was won folks. This dark brewed Porter is a classic, excellent malted beer. How can you not respect a brewery that held on and didn't get swallowed up by the big boys? If you haven't ventured into the world of dark beers, start here. A "smooth" transition into the dark beers of the world awaits you.

Victory Hop Devil Ale
Smell the Hop! Taste the Hop! Be the Hop! This is actually not named correctly. Sorry Victory Brewing, but I'm not seeing anything so devilish, it's more like an Angelic concoction of Hop goodness. This well done Ale has a nice blend of dry and sweet. This probably would have to be a beer to work up to if your not used to the strong hopped beers.

Magic Hat Wacko Summer Seasonal
Perusers of this blog know Matt does not rate sweet beers high. But... Tonite may be the night! This summer beer is sweet on the initial taste but goes down like a lager. No bitter or hop dryness. This Magic Hat is a refreshing change of pace. I think all beer drinkers would enjoy this. Beet juice was used to color this beer and it definitely has a beet red color to it. But you can't "BEET" it for flavor either.

Blackstone Chaser Pale
Nashville based Blackstone Brewery is doing it right. |
This Nashville Brew is touted as a German style Kolsch. This beer poured into the glass with a pale greenish hue but is not a green beer, by no means. A white fluffy head laced the glass all the way to the bottom, which I must say was disappointing, getting to the bottom that is. A surprise to this beer was the chocolaty flavor that hits your mouth, this flavor is usually found in the darker porters and stouts. While starting with that it finishes light. I just want to thank Blackstone for making such a complex enjoyable beer. I will drink again. Pair this with a turkey dinner and you will not be disappointed.

Magic Hat Single Chair
This 5% abv "Golden Beer" By Magic Hat Brewers is dedicated to the Mad River Glen ski area. How can you not respect a beer dedicated to snow skiing, one of my favorite past times. That being said I will give this review no bias. (yeah right!) At first sip I notice a light, sweet start on the tip of my tongue, with a smooth finish. No bitter or dryness at all. I then took notice that the beer is unfiltered, which usually will indicate a little yeast bite, but not here it drinks like a filtered beer to me. As we have noticed with Magic Hat across the board another excellent beer. I would recommend this to beer drinkers who are trying to wean themselves from the light Lagers lining the shelves of most stores.
